I love the idea of embedding an image in a piece of paper. My work is comprised of hand-sewn documents from my life: work-related maternity leave contracts, birth certificates, marriage certificates, or official government letters. I feel the most important and meaningful events of my life are interlaced and directed in the issuing of these simple sheets of paper. For myself, my work is a reconstruction of the world in which I live.
I am interested in the way institutional structures shape our perception of social norms and hierarchy. My art reflects the ironic undercurrents between personal and institutional identity. By working with traditional imagery and non-traditional material, I am seeking to explore the nature of art in context: the site for our beliefs. My art is featured nationally and internationally. I was one of the eighty-one artists from around the world selected to participate in Fiberarts International 2013. My work has been represented and supported by organizations like the Boulder Contemporary Arts Museum and the Denver Seminary. I received my Bachelor of Arts from Texas Tech University in Art History with a minor in Philosophy. I wrote my thesis on Robert Smithson’s last earthwork: Amarillo Ramp located in Amarillo, Texas. While at Texas Tech, I studied sculpture with an emphasis in metals, film, and classical ballet. |
